ZOE ( reg. COVER GIRL)
Zoe is the 4th foal out of our TB mare Cato's Sister, previous
foals were purebreds and a Connemara cross. Zoe is our first
Trakehner cross and we couldn't be happier. My first impression
of the filly was how beautiful her head was and such shapely
ears! Then I saw the long legs and huge joints, wow, longer
than anything we've ever had here! At 2 months, I had a visiting
Cornell vet comment she had never seen a foal with such straight
and correct legs at that young an age. Zoe is easy to work
with, very intelligent. My husband is a former farrier, so
standing properly for trimming is a must. She jumped into
the horse trailer first try and learned to hop over cross
rails while we exercised her mom. (This is exciting as my
daughter plans to event her someday.) To date she has had
no health or foot problems, one minor injury so we learned
about wrapping and tying. Zoe's out every day - rain, shine
or snow with the rest of our horses. Socially she's very well
adapted, sweet and friendly.
Zoe's big outing came at the end of summer when she was
4 1/2 months old. We went to the Genesee Valley Breeders Show
in Avon, NY. Zoe was the champion foal, champion sporthorse
and show grand champion. I knew going into the show we had
a really nice filly and of course you always have your hopes
up but boy that day we never came down! The judge's comments
were "excellent" in every category and she placed
Zoe far above the competition that day. And we won a manners
and conditon class to boot! One fellow competitor at the show
came over and said her best description for Zoe was "Godiva
chocolate" - so very smooth! I'd have to agree, she has
teriffic balance and symmetry, correctness and big flowing
gaits to go along with her good looks and big eye. I was told
Windfall was a great cross with a TB mare and I surely was
not let down. Windfall is prepotent, his get are stamped with
his looks and conformation. My vet recently noted Zoe had
a look of her own, I think it's actually the look of Windfall.
Would I breed back to Windfall or recommend him to another
mare owner? Definitely!
